Headed up to Door County on Saturday as part of a weekend home to celebrate my parents’ anniversary (32!). This trip led to the discovery of some instant classics:

  • Fred and Fuzzy’s: this totally unassuming spot on the bay offers one just one nod to fancy: margaritas made with local cherry juice. Beers come from bottles, cups and chairs are plastic, and our appetizer was called the “munchie basket”. Yet the unobstructed water access and no-wait seating won me over instantly… enough that we were Googling the pricing for a stay at one of the neighboring resort’s cabins at the table.
  • Wickman House: This restaurant feels like it’s been around forever, but opened its doors last year. With a spare dining room and screened-in porch seating, an oyster menu that consists of slips of paper in a jar on the table, and a craft cocktail menu of classics, we were huge fans once we were shown to our table. My dad tried his first fish taco! The perfect ending was the dessert - all four offerings in miniature on a platter to share. Right after we effused to a group entering as we left, we realized: reservations will likely be needed on our next trip.
